Grow by Ginkgo Bioworks
Magazine / Editorial Design
Designing with nature is full of endless possibilities and complexities. Headquartered in Boston, Ginkgo Bioworks uses the most advanced technology on the planet—biology—to grow better products across diverse markets, from food to fragrance to pharmaceuticals. Grow magazine by Ginkgo Bioworks seeks to tell creative stories that reflect their wonder for synthetic biology, highlight current endeavors, investigate neglected histories, and imagine collective biological futures.
Working closely with Ginkgo Bioworks art director, Grace Chuang, Stoltze Design updated the overall design and typography of the publication and created the layouts that featured a diverse roster of talented artists including: Lauren Davis, Surasti Puri, Harriet Lee-Merrion, Amber Vittoria, Israel G. Vargas, Liana Finck, Whooli Chen, and Ally Schmaling. Stoltze saw the project through print production and also created a digital version for desktop and mobile devices.
Publication Recognition: Communication Arts Annual Design Awards, Graphis Design Annual, nominated for best overall issue by the Society of Publication Designers
