Peter Waite at The Wadsworth
Book Design / Catalog / Exhibition
Peter Waite’s large-scale paintings of familiar sites across New England and historic locations throughout Europe investigate the cultural significance and transitional nature of public spaces. Rendered from the viewer’s perspective, Waite captures the stillness of liminal spaces—such as train stations, passageways, and public parks—as a means of reflecting upon the progression of time, shifting social priorities, exploration of communal environments, and personal memory.
The Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art partnered with Stoltze Design Group on the branding, catalogue, and exhibition graphics, as well as the print and digital marketing materials for Peter Waite: Social Memory, Paintings 1987–2025. Our approach was to apply a light touch to the typography and colors, and execute a clean, modern layout with ample white space for the catalogue, allowing the quiet quality of the paintings to be revealed.
